Overview
The Lyric Repertory Company, a professional theatre company at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, seeks a Scenic Intern with practical experience in all scenic areas of theatre production. The position is seasonal and full-time with onsite residency required.


Responsibilities
This internship is designed to give challenging, practical experience to enhance the student's academic program, and provide a well-rounded, hands-on experience working in a face paced professional summer theatre company. Working alongside skilled carpenters and other scenic professionals will guarantee an understanding of team work and how each production department affects the final output of a project. Interns work alongside seasoned professionals, learn construction skills, participate in all areas of scenic construction, serve as run crew on all shows in a variety of positions; assist with load-ins, changeovers and participate in season strike. May be assigned to other scenic areas such as props or paint should production needs require additional hands.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a university theatre or entertainment program.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of MIG welding (helpful but not required).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong background in set construction and carpentry.
  • Strong understanding of theatre and production practices.
  • Run crew experience.
  • Strong willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to work at heights and tight places.

Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.

The Department of Theatre Arts offers a BFA in Performance, Design/Tech, and Theatre Education; a BA in Theatre (general studies); and an MFA with concentrations in Costume, Set, and Lighting Design.
